Delighters today, Satisfiers tomorrow!

I’ve written a lot recently about how I recommend you prioritize building solutions that delight your users. They should take preference over those features that simply satisfy them.

However, those solutions that delight your users today are likely to become Satisfiers in the future.

Why?

Because if you have something innovative that users love, others are bound to copy you.  When this happens, what originally made you different, becomes the standard.

A great example is LinkedIn’s current experiment with a TikTok-style video feed in its app. What once made TiKTok stand out from the rest, is now rapidly becoming the norm for its competitors.

The trick is to continue to innovate, to keep looking for those Delighters. Your timing is important. Don’t wait until everyone has caught up to think of something new. By then it might be too late.

Innovation is constant. It is frustrating when others copy you, but while they are busy trying to catch up, you are innovating to stay ahead.
